Greetings all
This is tony from Funkytowngrooves Ltd, have been registered for a while but have tended to browse the topics with great interest, there are some very knowledgable posters on the forum.
For those who dont know our company we are a UK Based Classic Soul & Funk Reissue label, we are working very hard to make available the great albums we all love, albums that if it is left up to the Majors and in some cases smaller labels will never ever see a release on CD.
All of our releases are 100% legit - licensed for Sound Rights & all due Publishing, whilst reading a few posts on the forum i have seen a few comments questioning if what we release is legit , i hope what i have already mentioned clears that up,
We are due to release our 1st releases with Universal Special Markets USA on the 28th August, Janice Mcclain & Gene Van Buren, any reissue suggecstions will be warmly appreciated.
drop me an email if you have any questions
Thanks
Tony

Hey Tony:
It's Eddie Paige, the guy who just bought a ton of stuff through your Amazon website. I did get the Dayton disc you guys put out awhile ago. It did sound like it was transferred from vinyl but I however prefer that over master tapes as many have deteriorated. I didn't see that Dayton album when I cross-referenced your Amazon list so that's why I asked for a list of other items you got.
It's good to see that Janice McClain disc will be coming out in August. That's one for my cart.
I do like the Nile Rogers disc you put out called Adventures in the Land of the Good Groove which is also being licensed by Wounded Bird and slated for release in August of course minus the bonus tracks. Wounded Bird just recently did a similar reissue of the System's Sweat Lp again minus bonus cuts so that would be some of the possible reasons I would hesitate in buying but that Dayton disc is really great. At $9.99, the picutures are perfect and the sound is superb so it's sort of a no brainer. If it's not legit, I'd still support you as the artist gets next to nothing when the majors reissue anyhow. Nobody else including Amazon direct is selling your items so that was reason to hesitate especially if before you got the Amazon account, I'd have to buy oversees with a change of currency charge on my account.
Best of luck Tony and I'll support you either way. It's just I've never heard of concurrent licenses granted by the majors for both your company and another (Wounded Bird). Sony Special Products released some nice stuff like a compilation of Bloodstone's T-Neck years. It was tough to find yet cheap when I was on my scavenger hunts BITD before the Net.
I'd like to see the following on CD (and this is the short list):
Smoke City 1985 Lp I really want you with "Dreams"
Danny Pearson who is a falsetto product of Barry White

Ray, Goodman, and Brown-Lp Take it to the limit 1986
Rene (Moore)-Lp True to the game with "Doing what my heart say do" which was a rarity that I've only heard on radio in mid 90's. He apparently dropped his last name but I've never seen a listing for this in any format.

Smokey Robinson-Flying high (1st solo Lp)
Street Soul Symphony-2 mid 70's Bang Lps with "Wish that love was magic"

Hey Eddie
I did respond to the message you sent from amazon.com.
Its weird, I was wondering as i posted yeserday if it was yourself that had made the big purchase on our amazon but then thought no just a coincidence but it was lol freaky !!
With regards to the Nile Rodgers & The System releases if anyone was to get annoyed about a double release then it was ourselfs, we licensed from Miarge Records for worldwide and was stunned to see the Cripled foul releases appear, but as we always do we try to add value and expand and looking back i am glad we did, we have asked Jerry at Mirage for answers on why he double licensed it and are still waiting for an honest answer, we also have been assured that none of the other releases we have licensed and paid for with Mirage get relicensed, it just makes what is already a difficult job harder,
some great suggestions in your list, many we have on our radar, Eddie do you know Donald Cleveland - Brooklyn NY, he runs our US Operation, has been involved in many projects with all of the majors, a very very knowledgable guy, With donald on board it has given us access to guys like John Morales, Paul Simpson and on a couple of occasions DJ Spinna, all have helped with remastering projects, experienced guys, but also real down to earth decent people.
Eddie i have your email from the amazon contact request, i will drop you a note, lots more info regarding releases coming up over the next 6 months, some are well down the clearance raod others are only just requested so its a delicate topic.
Cheers
Tony |

Hey Tony:
I don't know Donald but it's good to have knowledgable folks because some labels have actually issued alternate takes of albums by mistake. George Benson's Body Talk was issued twice on CD and has that flaw as both Cds clock in at different times.
I won't ask for specifics but would you consider licensing 70's and even 60's music or are you trying to keep the Funkytowngrooves brand for the early 80's?
Another label was the recipient of duel licenses. The Average White Band albums were issued by Edsel and Collector's Choice earlier in the year. However, the Amazon US site is not making the UK ones available within the US and they are the ones with exclusive material. Collector's Choice is issuing the same discs issued in the mid 90's which I already have.
PS: Just got your package and all 16 discs are there. Great chattin' with ya.
It is a small world but I honestly don't think this titles will sell in huge numbers. For instance, both volumes of Super Rare disco from the mid 90's are still in print yet only 2,000 were pressed. Almost everyone at Discomusic.com has them so reissues are always a specialist market. _________________ It's not a traffic jam, it's a body jam!-Yvonne de la Vega |

Here's what a bought from Tony just before my computer crashed. It includes albums from Boardwalk and Mirage labels for the most part. They were both indies that sprung up after the decline in disco and featured a balance of upstart artists and veterans. Boardwalk had Richard "Dimples" Fields, Ohio Players, and Curtis Mayfield and that's off of the top of my head.
TS Monk: More of the Good Life, House of Music, Human
Keni Stevens: Blue Moods, Living on the edge, You
Stroke
System: Sweat + 6 Bonuses
Attitude: Pump The Nation
M-Zee: Doctor Rhythm
Blue Magic: Magic #
Cliff Dawson
Invisible Man's Band: Really Wanna See You
Nile Rogers: Adventures In The Land Of The Good Groove + 2 Bonuses
Syl Johnson: Ms Fine Brown Frame
Soul & Funk Collection Vol. 2
Soul & Funk Collection Vol. 1
Those various artists collection includes a rare ballad and boogie track from First Love. Their are tracks from the soundtrack which featured Chic called Soup for one. Fonzi Thornton and Teddy Pendergrass have rare tracks featured only here and on that tough to find soundtrack even on vinyl. _________________ It's not a traffic jam, it's a body jam!-Yvonne de la Vega |
